I have a strange inclination to actually try that sometimes. He starts out with some regional jokes talking about San Francisco and brings up a brilliant point about sitting on a toilet seat backwards. As many comics do, he admits he sucks live which shows some social anxiety on his part. Such actions are reserved for prop comics and mimes. We can’t exactly boo what we haven’t even heard yet. His line to open the show is “Thank you for clapping what my parents are ashamed of”. We open to stand up comedian Daniel Tosh who receives a smattering of applause. Heck, I wasn’t even aware he did stand-up. Hopefully that trend changes with Daniel Tosh, star of the tv show Tosh.O. But lately, it seems that the comedians I get to review aren’t really that funny. After all, stand up specials aren’t usually that long, have few extras and will hopefully provoke a laugh from yours truly. So many guys I love have 2 great specials but then the third one comes out and it’s disappointing.I have a penchant lately for reviewing stand up comedians. Dane Cook was the king of comedy with 2 specials under his belt, then the third flopped. Guys like Bill Burr, Louis CK, Dave Chapelle, Tosh,, Patton Oswald, Ricky Gervais,Tom Segura, and Jerrod Carmichael have proved that, for them, it’s no longer a question of talent but instead a question of time. I’ve watch so many guys step up for their third special and then take a down turn in their careers.īut the guys that put a killer third specials normally continue that pace for the remainder of their career. ![]() There are a small number of comedians who are funny enough to put out 3 strong specials in a row without losing any bit of edge, humor, relevance etc. In comedy I like to look at one thing when discussing how good a comedian really. I don’t really think this is much of a debate but I do notice that his name gets skipped over when I read threads about the top comedians.
